Say Adios to Other Anti-Ageing Skincare

Say Adios to other Anti-Ageing Skincare Routines…

You’ve made a good start by reading our definitive guide (well we think so, anyway) on getting to grips with What Ages Us Men - the causes, the symptoms and the…

Firstly, we all age and that’s a natural process but the rate at which we age and the signs that wear on our skin are quite uniquely our own.

The main goals of any anti-ageing regime may be to achieve a healthy, smoother, blemish free face, even out skintone and tackle the issue of resilience of the skin.

A complete Mens Skincare Routine with the benefits of Aloe Vera, Alternative Retinol serum, Niacinamide, Multi-molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid is easy to follow in as little as 4 steps, click link to find out more.

With skin health considered one of the main factors of overall well-being, it is no surprise that Internet Searches on the topic have grown in the last years.

There are many factors affecting ageing, and perhaps more importantly, the age we feel. Genetics, hormones and the metabolism of your cells are uniquely down to you, but then there are external factors to contend with - light exposure, pollution, chemicals and toxins. In the industry-lingo we bandy about the term ‘free radicals’ but what we mean are the environmental factors that may wear on your skin.

As we age, progressively noticeable signs present themselves as changes in each layer of the skin -the dermis and epidermis – especially in sun-exposed areas!

We can notice a thickened epidermis or mottled, discolored and deeply wrinkled skin, that has lost some of its so-called youthfulness. It may become lax, dull and rough. It’s widely known that we lose collagen at about 1% per year, from as early as our late-twenties, and this may lead to ageing of the entire face. Skin elasticity declines and coupled with gravity weighing us down, muscles working overtime, further weakening of the bond between the layers of skin. The result of which can often be changes in contour and colour of our skin.

But to look better doesn’t necessarily mean to look younger, rather we like to think of it as having healthy skin that reclaims a healthy appearance.

Oxidative Stress also affects your skin in noticeable ways and chief among them is the loss of collagen, less elastic fibers and hyaluronic acid. The result of which is often fine wrinkles. So we may be asking ourselves…

Is My Face beginning to resemble an AA Route Planner?

Whilst we generally think of the 3 Wrinkle Groups, we’ve delved into a list of 8 types of wrinkles that can be commonly found:

1 Forehead Wrinkles – across the top of the T-Zone

2 Worry Lines – the dreaded 11 lines that either make you appear deep in thought or scowling

3 Crow’s Feet – crinkles at the corner of the eyes. Perhaps due to sunlight hitting at wrong spot for the Saturday Selfie?

4 Laughing Lines - Maybe because you're creased laughing at a funny Reel, but these lines can bracket your upper lip

5 Lip Lines – A crosshatch at the corner of your mouth

6 Marionette Lines – whilst a pronounced jawline can show signs of a masculine appearance, perhaps we don’t want our chin framed or jowl wrinkles to help.

7 Dynamic Wrinkles – formed from the repeated muscle-movements in our face – always laughing, smiling, giving a stoic pose for Instagram?

8 Static Wrinkles – are often a consequence of a loss of elasticity and the general pull of gravity but did you know that ‘once’ dynamic wrinkles can become Static overtime, as natural ageing occurs?

As the rise in the importance of skincare for Men shows no signs of abating, more studies have been undertaken in recent years on the Ageing conundrum. One such study concluded that men under retirement age, experience the presence of more wrinkles than female respondents. Source

Other ailments affecting men in their 20s,30s,40s and beyond….

A common concern is the dark circles under eyes.

As we age, one of the key changes that occurs is the loss of fatty tissue beneath our skin, particularly around the eye area. This fat loss can cause the skin to become thinner and less cushioned, making fine lines, wrinkles, and hollowing under the eyes more noticeable. Since the skin around the eyes is already delicate, the loss of underlying support can lead to a tired or sunken appearance. Including targeted skincare products that promote hydration and collagen production can help mitigate these visible signs of ageing. Canario Plus ALL-IN_1 EYE CREAM (link to product) is an Active packed, powerhouse of botanicals and all-rounder for combating dark circles under eyes at 30 and later in life. Discolouration of the skin is another common aspect of ageing.

Over time, our skin may produce more melanin, leading to the uneven pigmentation or dreaded dark spots, a process known as hyperpigmentation. This can be influenced by various factors, including sun exposure, hormonal changes, and even the natural slowdown of skin cell turnover rates. As melanin production becomes more irregular, areas of darker or patchy skin can appear, often making the skin look duller or more aged in general.

  • Can you delete everything bar the dropper and image, with only the B3 Vitaimin in the image and keep the title ‘Niacinamide’

One powerful ingredient to include in a skincare routine is niacinamide, a form of Vitamin B3 recognized for its ability to brighten skin tone, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and support the skin barrier. Helping to minimize the impact of environmental stressors we encounter daily, like pollution, that can accelerate the appearance of ageing. Research has shown that Niacinamide may improve the texture and tone of the skin by hyperpigmentation and inflammation. It’s a great addition to any routine if you’re looking to maintain a youthful, even complexion while keeping your skin resilient and smooth. We’ve highlighted how it works on your skin below, in 6 easy pointers:

  1. Supports the Skin Barrier: Helps boost the production of ceramides and other lipids within the skin. These are natural components of the skin barrier that help retain moisture. Improving the lipid content of the outermost layer of the skin, niacinamide can help the skin stay more resilient, hydrated and plump.
  1. Reduces Inflammation – with inherent anti-inflammatory properties, it can help calm irritated or inflamed skin. By reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemicals that exacerbate redness and irritation, even in conditions such as acne, rosacea, or eczema. In short, reduces redness and can smooth skin appearance over time.
  1. Regulates Sebum production – balancing out sebum (oil) production in the skin. Targeting oily or combination skin, this can be beneficial as it aids in diminishing the appearance of large pores and minimizing shine – a matt look without drying out the skin.
  1. Improve Tone and Hyperpigmentation – Niacinamide interferes with the transfer of melanin to skin cells on the surface. This process helps reduce the appearance of dark spots, sunspots, and hyperpigmentation. Niacinamide in 5% concentration could reduce hyperpigmentation and improve skin elasticity over a period of 12 weeks according to the British Journal of Dermatology, see references.
  1. Boosts Collagen Production – niacinamide stimulates the production of collagen and other proteins like keratin, which in turn contribute to skin’s firmness and elasticity.
  1. Acts as an Antioxidant- therefore helps neutralize free radicals generated in your environment. Free Radicals are unstable molecules that can damage skin cells, thought to lead to premature ageing and loss of elasticity. Reducing Oxidative stress, helps protect the skin from damage.

In short, niacinamide is a powerhouse ingredient to improve overall skin health by targeting multiple signs of ageing, regulating oil production, reducing redness, and brightening skin tone. The versatility of this ingredient means it combines well with other active ingredients, making it a must-have in a comprehensive skincare routine.
